JOHN JACKSON EDMONDSON'S FAMILY
John Jackson Edmondson
(born 1st June 1845)
his son, Hunter Edmondson
(born 29th January 1872)
and his son, Frank Hunter Edmondson
(born 1st December 1903)
Both of John's parents, Thomas Edmondson and Jane Barker, came from that part of the Lake District that was at one time an outpost of Lancashire - the Furness peninsular. The towns of Sparkbridge, Pennybridge, Kirkby Ireleth and Ulverston come up regularly in the records.
The 1851 census shows the following return for 81 Park Road, Liverpool:
- Thomas Edmondson, head, age 40, Plumber and Glazier, employs two men, born Lancashire
- Jane Edmondson, wife, age 40, born Lancashire
- Mary Ann Edmondson, dau, age 12, scholar, born Liverpool
- Thomas Edmondson, son, age 8, scholar, born Liverpool
- John J. Edmondson, son, age 5, scholar, born Liverpool
- Jane E. Edmondson, dau, age 1, born Liverpool
- William Barker, visitor, age 63, (widr) Forgeman, born Lancashire
(William Barker is Thomas senior's father-in-law, Jane's father)
John Jackson Edmondson's middle name is the maiden name of his mother's mother. (Brother Hunter has his father's mother's maiden name as a first name.)
John's occuptation given as "Painter" on his marriage certificate. Living at 309 Park Road, Liverpool, at the time.
I am descended from Hunter Edmondson, son of Thomas and Jane, who was born in 1852, the year following the census. Whilst browing through the indexes for births at the Family Record Centre in London I noticed a second Hunter Edmondson, born 29th January 1872. I ordered the birth certificate and found that John Jackson Edmondson was the father (the five year old shown in the census above). Hunter junior was born at home, 3, Weston Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.
So on a hunch I checked to see if there were any other Edmondsons with Hunter as a first name and came up with Frank Hunter Edmondson's birth certificate and marriage certificate. Hunter junior's occupation is given as "General Labourer" on Frank Hunter Edmondson's birth certificate, and "Dock Checker" on Frank's mariage certificate.
Frank was born at 114 Priory Grove, Everton on 1st December 1903. His mother, Susan Graley, got married from 104 Priory Grove. Frank was living at 106 Benedict Street, Bootle, when he married Lilian Wildblood on 21st November 1926. At that time his occupation was stated as "Railway Goods Porter", and on his marriage certificate his first name is given as "Francis".
Frank and Lilian had four daughters. If you are one of Frank's children or grandchildren you must e-mail me!
