Harold's elder sister, Edith Valentine Edmondson was born on 15th February 1885 at 37 Empire street, West Derby, Liverpool. She married James Alexander Hardy on 26th January 1903 at St Philip Church, Liverpool. Two of Edith's cousins, William Charles Edmondson and Eliza Edmondson, were witnesses.

Edith and James had 10 children, eight boys and two girls. She was Chairman of the local Conservative Party and Gangy used to take Nor and Bun to see her when he went to see her on Conservative Party business. Nor was always impressed how Edith organised the children to carry out the household chores.

James died age 54 in 1937 from heart disease and bronchitis.

Spoken family history tells that Edith died of a broken heart in September 1941 after her daughter, Bessie, and her two grandchildren were killed in the Blitz. However, her death certificate shows she died on 4th September 1941, from empyema, a rare complication of pneumonia. She was living at 51B Sir Thomas White Gardens, Liverpool at the time of her death although she actually died at Walton Hospital in Rice Lane, Liverpool.
